Licensing Procedures

To enter the real estate profession you must obtain a license from the Florida Real Estate Commission. This can be achieved by meeting the following criteria:

  • You must be 18 years of age.
  • You must have a high school diploma or the equivalent.
  • You must have successfully completed a State required education course. This course may be obtained by applying to the Watson School of Real Estate. Upon successful completion of this course, which consists of 63 classroom hours, Watson School of Real Estate will provide you with a passing certificate and an application for the State examination. (8 hours absence is permitted-due to student or family illness ONLY).

Attach all required documents to your completed state application, include a check for your application fee and send to the Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Once your application is processed, the state will notify you with directions of scheduling your exam. The state exam is currently being administered directly by the Department of Business and Professional Regulation at various sites, including one in the Jacksonville area.

Upon passing the state exam, you will receive an inactive license. After securing employment, you may request an active license by filing form 2050. If you have already secured employment, your Broker may sign your 2050 for you to take with you to the test site. Upon passing the state exam, it will be faxed to the Department of Business and Professional Regulation.
